Molly the Marvelous was raised in polite society in New York where, as a precocious child, she received an education and learned to play several instruments. Seemingly unnaturally flexible and gregarious, she had a performer's heart and would do tricks while playing music for her horrified family and fair-weather friends. She found that she had a gift for changing the tides around her with a well placed word or bit of encouragement, though her sharp wit often got her in trouble in a society that dictated who she was allowed to be. At 17 years old, Molly gathered her instruments, some valuables and sundries and bolted from her home in the night. She wandered for a bit, paying her way by performing or smooth-talking her way to a hot meal, until she hooked up with a traveling circus. She settled into a life that celebrated the different, the loud, the absurd, and the unique. She was finally home. Now at 32, she's a chain-smoking loud mouthed sultry delight who can command a crowd with a wink, a twisted pose, and a crass joke.

Horatio “Horace” Bellweather is a well-fed, well-mannered antiquarian, auctioneer, raconteur, and self-appointed gentleman of taste who travels with the troupe as its principal financier, patron, and general parasite. He possesses a genuine love of history, old coins, relics, curios, and the stories people attach to them, though he's not afraid to embellish if there's coin to be made. During shows, Horace sets up his 'Cabinet of Wonders', a collection of strange and exotic artifacts containing such marvels as a splinter from the mast of the Bonhomme Richard, a Roman signet ring “unearthed beneath a monastery in Kent,” a set of George Washington's wooden teeth, or other such antiquities. Whether they are authentic or not, well... He does not enjoy parting with his coin, and is a stickler. But despite his general avarice (food, coin, items), he does savor the hunt-- and enjoys curious and strange people who excite him

Whitlock Eggelborn was an unfortunate soul with many defects, lacking limbs and being deformed from birth. Sometime during his early upbringing, he was tossed into the streets and left for dead. An eccentric inventor from out of town, maybe even out of country, found him and brought him along. The decrepit and weak body of the boy was augmented with various experimentation, and during his upbringing, the boy learned about all sorts of crafts, delving into the worlds of engineering, alchemy, smithing, mechanics, medicine and even arcane magical lore. By combining everything he had learned, and with the help of his acquired father, he decided he would no longer be limited by the flesh. Once he left the home of his altruistic inventor father, his own ambitions were not so much focused on helping others, but rather himself. He eventually joined a circus, since it was the only place that accepted his strange appearance. They saw the value in his knowledge, and he was employed as their repairman, inventor of new gadgets, and occasionally a performer. The world might consider him a freak, but oh... one day, he will show them what else he can be...

Barnaby realized at an early age that he had a better sense of what others were thinking than most could perceive. Their thoughts, desires, impulses all read like a book to Barnaby immediately upon meeting them. As the years progressed, he learned to use these abilities to plant images and suggestions into the minds of those he would meet. Now the ringleader of a traveling circus, Barnaby uses his powers to dazzle and delight audiences one city at a time. He thinks of this circus as home and its crew as his family. Most of the world perceives him to be a creepy and haunting man that would make them pull their children closer upon sight. But the circus knows him to be a loving patriarch whose only concern is making sure the show goes on and that his traveling family is taken care of. One night after another, one town to the next, Barnaby gives 110% effort into putting his carnival of madness and its performers over in the eyes of a society that would otherwise discard them.
